Q. Do all customers have to make these changes?
A. Yes, regardless of which service plan you have, you must switch to the new system before September 25th.
Q. How can I tell if I'm on the old system or the new system?
A. If you aren't sure which system you are on, click this link to find out. It will check your IP address and let you know what steps you need to take.
Q. Why would I want a static IP address instead of using DHCP? And what do I need to do to obtain one?
A. A static IP address guarantees that you always have the same network address on the Internet. This can be helpful if you need to access your connection from another location or have an IP-based camera system. It may also be required when using some corporate VPN software. However, most customers will be fine using a DHCP address. If you need a static IP, or need additional information, e-mail support@waspwireless.com or call 870-268-9441.
Q. What happens if I don't make the changes before the deadline?
A. If you haven't switched to the new system by the end of the day on September 25th, you won't be able to access the Internet until you do. This will not cancel your Internet service with WaspWireless.
Q. Will this affect my e-mail?
A. No, this will not require any changes to your e-mail setup.
Q. If I have a router, will I need to make any changes to my computers?
A. Probably not. Your router is the only device that gets a public IP address from us. Your computers use private IP addresses assigned by your router. If your computer can't access the Internet after making changes to your router, reboot the computer or repair the network connection to make sure it obtains the updated network settings.
Q. I don't use Windows, or I have a different kind of router. How do I go about making the changes?
A. We created the step-by-step instructions for Windows computers and Linksys routers because they are the most commonly used devices on our network. Other routers and computer systems work the same way, but will have a different procedure to make the changes. Consult your system's documentation or give us a call at 870-268-9441 and we'll do our best to help you.
